December 15th Luncheon
It can feel like a real treasure hunt without a map when you’re working on a project that needs specific community data. Guesses and estimates and hearing someone say doesn’t work when you have a need to be accurate. How do you find the information you’re needing, whether it is for a report or a grant application or a program proposal? Do statistics support our projects? Does the data say our community has the same needs that we think it has?
Stan Ralstin, Area Extension Community Development Specialist for the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service will be speaking at this month’s Lunch and Learn, Dec. 15 from 11:00 – 12:30 at the Acapulco. He is to discuss any and all current relevant sources of data and information about the county and the county's health care system and how it is relevant to assessing our community. The data and information he is presenting will be showing where our community and county ranks with other counties in the state and nationally. The information also include five areas of data: economic, health / behavioral, education, traffic, and crime.
Ralstin serves Rural Development efforts in 37 counties in Western Oklahoma. He was born and raised on a farm north of Guymon in the Oklahoma Panhandle. He graduated from Guymon High School and then went to Oklahoma State University and received his BS and MS from OSU in Agricultural Economics. He has been with OCES for over 26 years as a Community and Economic Development Specialist providing educational programs, technical assistance, and data and information analysis for community leaders and citizens in Western Oklahoma. The Rural Development program has three major areas of focus, 1) economic small business and tourism development, 2) community services and infrastructure and 3) local and county government education.
